Abstract

MCM-41 is a based silica new material which has pore size fall in mesopore category. This material has potential application in industry such as catalyst, catalyst support, adsorbent, molecular host, etc. To the present, there are two mechanisms in preparation of MCM-41: liquid crystal templating mechanism and lamellar transformation. The preparation  of MCM-41 affected by many factor such as temperature and reaction time. This paper describes the preparation of MCM-41 and its characterization. In our present study the characterization of MCM-41 were performed by XRD and benzene adsorption. From the experimental results it can be seen that the optimum temperature and reaction time for the preparation of MCM-41 are 90°C and 4 days, respectively. The pore diameter, pore volume, and surface area of the MCM-41 are 3.8496 nm, 0.7154 cm3/g and 743.3115 m2/g, respectively.
